Ageing to Ageless Style

love your life Jun 18, 2023

Ironically, you spend the first part of your life trying to look older. Now, you're spending the rest trying to look younger.

We all know that being youthful isn't the only thing that's beautiful or attractive, but few of us want to look older than we are. While we may not be able to turn back the clock, there are things we can do to ensure that we look our best. Ultimately the goal is to look the best you can at your age so that you feel empowered to glide through each of life's decades as an appealing, ever-evolving, exciting woman.

There are no universal *rules* about what women over 5o should wear and it's up to us to redefine style for our generation. Your style reflects you, it's your truth, it's personal. It shouldn't be what someone else is wearing that you like that doesn't work for you, your body type, or your lifestyle.

Your personal style is an evolution. It will change over time as you do. You are not the same woman you were 10, 15 or 20 years ago, so why dress like her? You don't act like a woman in your mother's and grandmother's generations, so don't dress like them either. (I'm at that delusional age where I think everyone my age looks way older than I do.) Helen Mirren once quipped: "When you're 30, 45 looks old to you. When you turn 45, 60 looks old to you. When you are 60, nobody looks old anymore."

Fashion evolves, too. Sometimes our closets don't keep up. It's easy to deny how dated a garment looks on you when you've loved it for a long time. Such denial can affect how others perceive you. It's up to you to show them you don't have a best-before date, but it's tricky when what used to work just doesn't anymore and you are starting to wonder what you're going to wear for the rest of your life.

Can I still wear this now that I'm in my 50's? Can a 70-year-old woman still wear leggings" I get asked such questions often, especially when a woman is at an age when she starts to feel invisible. I always answer the same way: yes, of course you can wear what looks good on you. But then I have to go into the more extended version of that answer, because it's not a simple question.

One of the secrets is to always stay clothes curious instead of stuck somewhere in your own past. In my opinion most women don't look like they are trying to hard, but too many look like they are not trying at all any more. They are stuck in a style rut.

Manifest the full expression of your individuality and convey it to the world in part through your clothes. Think about what you like to wear. A well-curated collection of looks you will have fun wearing will make you look fresh and modern.

Regardless of what the world wants you to do or who to be, there is only one person who can dream your dreams and live your life - and you see her in the mirror every day.
