The Brooch is Back
Apr 02, 2025
I was going through some old photographs recently and couldn't help but notice - whenever my mom was dressed up to go someplace special, she always wore a brooch.
Back in the day, everyone did. A brooch was the finishing touch. A little sparkle, a personal flourish, and something that made even the most ordinary outfit feel extra special. It was her signature. Her style stamp.
I wonder whatever happened to my mother's brooch. When I inherited her jewelry, it wasn't there. But I remember it so clearly - etched into my heart. It looked like a single golden wing, delicately curved, with a luminous pearl nestled near the tip. Elegant and understated, yet full of quiet strength -just like her. It was more than an accessory. It was a symbol of who she was when she stepped out into the world.
For years, brooches were dismissed as old-fashioned - something only *ladies of a certain age* wore. But not anymore.
The brooch is back - and not quietly, either. It's being pinned with purpose and pride, not just on lapels but on sweaters, scarves handbags, hats, and even jeans. And let me tell you, Paris has taken notice. Brooches are everywhere on the streets - worn with effortless flair by women of every age who know that style is about expression, not age.
A Little History ...
Brooches actually go way back - centuries, in fact. They started as practical fasteners in Ancient Greece and Rome, known as fibulae. Over time, they became symbols of identity, artistry, and sometimes even rebellion. From medieval cloaks to Victorian cameos and Art Deco dazzlers, they've always added meaning to adornment. And now, they're making a modern return - with a wink and a whole lot of style.
The best part? There are no rules.
You can wear one bold beauty on a blazer, cluster a few vintage finds on your shoulder, or pin something playful to a simple knit. You can make it personal. Make it fun. Make it yours. Think outside the lapel.
Style always circles back - but this isn't about nostalgia. It's about reclaiming something beautiful and making it your own.
So, if you've got one tucked away in a drawer, it might be time to dust it off. Or better yet, treat yourself to something new that feels like you.
Because a brooch isn't an accessory. It's a little celebration of the woman wearing it.
